Ryan westermeyer
Well, my name is Ryan and I am a soon-to-be sophomore in college! I created this website as a project for my freshman writing class, however, I have enjoyed the creation process so much that I think I will continue to add and tweak it as I venture more into the wonderful world of film and its flaws. About a month or so before being assigned the task of creating this website I was given another assignment to write a paper about something having to do with the world of street art. Now, I like art as much as the next guy, but I really wanted to write about something that I was passionate about. So that's how I got to gang culture in film, a topic that I found extremely intriguing yet next to impossible to research. After having much difficulty writing that paper I considered switching my topic when it came to this project, but decided to stick it out, and I am ecstatic I did. I was able to find more sources and information that helped me build this site, one that I am actually pretty proud of.
Now let's get one thing straight: I love film. I really do. The amount of work and talent that can be encompassed into just a couple of hours is beyond amazing to me. So, when given the opportunity to work on it for school, I jumped at it. I know I judged these films pretty harshly - come on, I needed you folks to take my side - but to be honest I still love them all. Gangs of New York will always be one of my favorites, The Godfather will always be the best movie made in America ever, and American History X will always make me cry tears of sadness and absolute horror at its content. So it was a bit difficult for me to grill those films that I admire so much, but I'm happy I did it. I found out things about these movies I never would have found out had I not done as much research on them as I did. I never would have known that New York City 1865 wasn't actually a bloodbath between the American-borns and the Irish immigrants. I never would have known that Marlon Brando created the image that is that mafia today. I never would have known that American History X used the f-bomb a whopping 205 times! I learned more about the flaws of the films I loved, and in return, loved them even more!
More about me: Elementary Education-Theatre Education double major, huge movie buff (obviously), theatre geek, college student surviving off little sleep and lots of coffee, aspiring Pokemon master, Taco Bell enthusiast.
